Cases of Somnambulism
2005.08.26 23:46

My former wife -married at my age 31 told me she used to have this practice in her younger days.
I believe this is a perfect example of symptom of schizophrenia.
Lady Godiva was well known for her bravity to show her nakedness in presence, but if she showed herself without her noticing -I mean she took off her clothing without consciousness.
As a matter of fact there are some reports some woman was walking naked at night after she fell asleep. -This is somnambulism- sleepwalking.
Jykill and Hyde is another example, they didn't know one another but act as if they are different personel. -this is also another example of sleepwalking.
When I was very young -at age 10, I used to enjoy reading detective story in which Arsene Lupin series was one of my most favorites.
The title was 'Eight Bells' or something, about a woman who has got a somnabulism. She tried to kill Lupin by hatchet only found to fail, Lupin was wearing an iron coat inside his clothing.
I think all they are guilty. They have to be responsible for what they did.

schizophrenia is not the same thing as "Multiple Personality Disorder". The correct term for MPD being Dissociative Identity Disorder. In Dissociative Identity Disorder more than one personality exist within the same body.
Schizophrenia is called the "split brain" disorder not because there are actually more than one personality but because the brain does not function normally. Instead of separating the information into components for each section to process and then reintegrating it, the brain makes mistakes and overloads on information instead of filtering out the unimportant parts.
somnambulism doesn't really have anything to do with schizophrenia. They fall into separate categories of disorders. Somnambulism is much more common and is harmless to the person suffering from it, and except for in the most extreme cases, is harmless to those around them as well. Schizophrenia, however, is a much more malignant disorder, causing extreme disfunction and puts everyone around the sufferer (and themselves) in danger. They cannot function without treatment.
I wish I still had my psychology book so that I could explain more, but this is all that I can remember off hand.--

Many criminals are to some extent -phychopathetic, whether they are real phycho doesn't matter, oftentimes they say bad excuse -'I was out of my mind in time of committing a crime ' So? 'So, I am not responsible for what I did at that time. '
We all have to be responsible whatever we did even in time of intoxication, under the influence of some drugs, under the influence from 'other characters'. - 'But it's a disease'. Yes, it is, but you have to be responsible all what you did under any influence, because everything you had, diagnosed belong to nothing but you.
