Screw
2005.08.30 16:06

At age 35, I went to work in a construction site, there I was told to screw in a driver. I was standing there to turn right and left but unable to screw it. I didn't know which direction to turn the screw.
One of co-workers rushed to me saying 'I'm only graduated from middle school, but I know how to operate it, you must know such a basic matter -everybody knows that we turn it to the right to tighten, turn it to the left to loosen.'
At the age of 35, I didn't know anything.

Only the truly wise know that they know nothing. Socrates may have been coy during his discourses but he always claimed he knew nothing. Those who know nothing ask the hardest questions, because the hardest questions are often the simplest questions. Those who know nothing learn quickly.Ignorance is bliss not because you don't know that you know nothing, but because you have no shame in asking.

A good point of American culture is in such a sufficed expression crystalised and lived in memory of all the people long in tradition. In case of emergency, a moment of hesitation cost us our lives. Probably it was more important than any other things first to learn by heart such useful catchwords in our childhood.--Ancient Greek Philosophers -18c Enlightenment Thinkers -Slashdotters
