Beethoven Critique

Beethoven Critique
2006.12.31 22:57

Always around the end of the year, we Japanese like to sing or hear 'The Delight' by Beethoven. Not only this song but others like 'Eroika' Beethoven's song typically lacks the variety of melody. One song has one melody only and its endless repetition. This is a true figure of Beethoven's work. I don't evaluate his songs.

Prohibition Of Negative Campaign

Prohibition Of Negative Campaign
2006.12.30 0:50

If I were told 'If you took this medicine, you would definitely get well', I would be glad to take it. But if I were told 'If you don't take this medicine, you would definitely get worse', I feel very reluctant to take this medicine. Because I would like to challenge his stupid remarks. I think I will have many alternatives even if I didn't take this medicine. If I chose to take other medicines, I can expect similar effects as well.
Negative campaign is wrong. Very stupid remarks.

The Riddle Of Gospels

The Riddle Of Gospels
2006.12.30 0:02

I read four Gospels at age 14 or 15. I was struck by their amazing similarities. I just wondered why four people had to write the very similar things.
Now I learned all four gospels were written in at least 50 at the earliest or 110 at the latest. My first question is why Jesus's life wasn't written down right after his crucification. My second question is why there are four similar copies of the descriptions of his life. There are many speculations on these questions.

Schism

Schism
2006.12.29 3:09

Back in my university days, we had an English circle then. No one including a teacher couldn't tell the meaning of 'Schism' in vocabulary section in English test. One student (not mention who) raise his hand and answer that this word means 'something separation', the teacher shook his head slightly and said the word of disagreement. If this student were a history major, he must have known the historical event 'Great Schism'. This teacher was a lecturer of a measurement economy or something.
It seems he didn't realise the real schism in intelligence. Or the teacher showed his strange intelligence by showing strong disagreement in this case.

Gap

Gap
2006.12.29 2:47

After I spent two weeks in Sydney I came home. It was several years ago though. The scene I saw in Sydney was like a beautiful butterfly flies from beautiful flowers to flowers in heaven. The scene I witnessed in our city was like caterpillar having an edge of leaf from top to bottom. It took just two or three days to adjust it though.
The gap between two societies are beyond imagination.

Live Television Till Morning

Live Television Till Morning
2006.12.29 2:04

We Japanese seems to like debating till morning. Once in a month on the last Friday in a month we have live television till morning. More than ten specialists gather and talk till morning. All discussion is held in Japanese. So I don't listen and watch at all. I think there are enough people who can speak workable English, workable enough to debate. Probably no watchers can be expected from this show if it were held in English, so they hold it in Japanese. But I don't believe we can debate in Japanese, so this debate show is either like a quarrel or a kind of show always keeps on evading what anyone want to say.
Stop such a stupid show.

Work &Labour

Work &Labour
2006.12.29 1:44

As a result of deregulation of working hours, now we can work more than 40 hours in a week without minding about earning extra working pay. Are we crazy? But this is the title and contents of articles in one of main national newspapers.
We all are labourers, but it's rare for us to be a worker. I'm a labourer in office. But I found a work in writing. This is not my labour. Writing is my work. If I were doing as I was told, that's labour. If I found what I have to do on my own and do it, that's my work. As long as we are hired, the shorter the labour hours, the better. The society nowadays is completely weird.

The Power Of Media

The Power Of Media
2006.12.28 23:42

Many years ago, it was probably twenty or something some politician called the media the fouth power. Jurisdiction, administration, legislation, and media. At least at that time when I heard that I thought it's merely an exaggeration. But these days while I've been looked at the current social situations closely, as if all are related to the contents media report. Mr Horie started appearing television suddenly and probably kept on appearing too many times. He became a youngster's idle. I don't know he really violated the law, but at least from ordinary people's point of view, he did nothing wrong. But he appeared television too many times, I assume he was targetted by jurists. He was arrested and indicted because his appearances made some people grow some assumption, that is 'he must have violated some law for he came to be an internet tycoon in such a very short period'. I guess there was such an assumption in it. The power of media creeps up to not only the minds of the general public but also those of those who hold power in jurisdiction. The power of media surpasses some of other powers every now and then.

Horiemon Trial

Horiemon Trial
2006.12.27 19:17

Horiemon was indicted by Tokyo public prosecutors for four year imprisonment. I think he will get away with this charge. It is just amazing for us to see how those charges were directly derived from just a synthesis of several news report, and not based on an investigation or evidence gathering from their own search. The ability of prosecutors to gather and analyse information correctly has been significantly declining even from a layman's view.

The Riddle Of Christmas

The Riddle Of Christmas
2006.12.27 2:42

For a few days before Christmas Day and after the day I've been reading many articles regarding the origin of Christmas. Usually we were told that Christmas is a birthday of Jesus, but why Christmas, not Christbirthday?
In some countries, especially in Latin countries like France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, the word for Christmas is directly derived from the birth of Jesus. The word for Christmas is Noel, Natal, Navidad, Natale respectively all mean Jesus's birth. In the first place was really Jesus born on the Christmas day? Many records suggest that the date Jesus was born is the 6th of January and this day has been celebrated as Epiphany, so why on Chiristmas day people celebrate Jesus's birth I boubt?
On the other hands, the Christmas means literaly Christ's mass, mass is a liturgy and usually held weekly or annually to commemorate the significance of sacrifice Jesus himself made. Jesus said at the Last Supper just before his crucification that we ought to hold Communion or Eucharist to commemorate -red wine is for His Blood and bread is for His Body, so if we were a Christian we ought to hold this ceremony, so Christmas has reason itself to be held, but why is it held on the 25th of December? I still can't get it.
Historically speaking Jesus's crucification took place after Passover, so generally it is taken for granted that the date of Jesus's death is April, or from late March to early May. Easter falls on the same season naturally. From a bibliographical description the 25th of December was celebrated as the birthday of Jesus as early as 354 so the history is not new at all.
Probably the date of his death was able to be specified, that is around April. Some early Christians believe that the date of the death of Jesus ought to be the same as the date of his conception in Mary, therefore nine months after the date of conception or crusification ought to be the date of his birth, so 25th of December is believed to fall on his birthday. This is a little bit unnatural explanation though. Another explanation is because 25th of December is winter solstice, the length of day starts longer from this day, the birth of Jesus is the birth of new hope in humankind. The day commemorates the start of prevailing hope.
Four days have passed since I started thinking about the meaning of Christmas. Christmas Day always makes us think the importance of giveaway. His biggest gift to us was his blood and body, Christmas commemorates his biggest giveaways anyway. Happy merry Christmas!

Significant Moment

Significant Moment
2006.12.23 14:43

Twenty years ago around this hour I was waiting to see her for the first time in front of Hankyu Department Store, Shijogawara, in central Kyoto. I met her at 20 minutes past 2 pm. We went to coffee shop called Trecca following her lead. She ordered American coffee, and I followed. At age 25 I was a still 15 year boy. She was 23 and already matured. We both were senior -fourth grade University students. One year and a half before we met first I called her up then I knew she planed to go to the graduate school in America. After one year and a half, she quit and decided to work in Tokyo. I was the only one who went to America to study furthermore. After one year after I went to America, I secretly went home to see her. She was working in an office at central Tokyo. I watched her closely many times from the coffee shop called Doutor. This coffee shop was located just opposit to the building she worked over the road. I watched her working there, but I was unable to call her any more. I tried to do so millions of times, but only to fail. I realised we both lived in a completely different world. Two lines came near very closely but never crossed. Two lines took the different direction and will never cross forever.

Twenty Years Ago

Twenty Years Ago 2006.12.23 2:30

Twenty years ago today I met her for the first time. Twenty years have passed, but my love toward her never changes. I often see her in my dream. I am able to see her in the dream. When I woke up, I realise I didn't see her. I see this dream over and over again. It's useless to see her in reality. It might be possible, but it's wasting time. I can see her in the past only in my dream, not in reality.

Gate to the Hell

Gate to the Hell 2006.12.22 3:02

White collar exemption means however hard they might work, they can't be evaluated as what they really did. According to some survey, the population of Japan in 2046 will be 95 million, and in 2105 it will be 44 million. To rule minority by another minority. This leads to the gate to hell. It all depends whether they are haves or have-nots. By the way I'm not an office worker. We are now on the turning point of history-from prosperity to decline.

Illumination

I'm not talking about Rimbaud's proses, but decoration of lighting on the houses for a Xmas day. Three years ago it was only one illumination from my home to my office. Two years ago, they increased more than one. One year ago they were three. This year the illumination on the houses increased to six. I remember every house in US were decorated in illumination withought exception. Till the time every house has its illumination in Japan, Japan will be the name of one state of the United States.

If I use Japanese, my vein in my brain starts forming clots.

My Objective Of Life

I started writing poems at age 9. But of course I was unable to hold the idea of becoming a writer at that time.

I started writing poems at age 14. This time I started not being told by anyone. I started sponteneously. I left tens of hundreds of drafts, and at age 15 I made up my mind firmly to be a novelist in my life.

I started publicising my first thesis at age 15 in some journal (Not Slashdot) and till at age 19 I published my two literal writings. I did what I could do only in my highteens. I was known to some literary people in Tokyo before I go to college.

I'm satisfied, and I hadn't been satified to stay in Japan's writer. At age 20 I decided to start learning English by myself to be an internetional writer.

My pinnacle is yet to come, but if I keep on pursuing my way I will be sure to achieve.

Self Tore Apart

Self Tore Apart
2006.12.19 23:54

I lost all my manuscripts from at age 14 to 16, for three years. During that time I was struggling with the destruction of self. I was forced to adopt many matters that have different values. I had been just unable to adopt harmoniously those things in my mind. Here's the word I remember from my lost manuscripts, that is ' My self will end up submerging if this situation goes on.'
Writers are very sensitive, susceptible, vulnerable, fragile. In other words in better words, very systematic. I have to keep myself healthy first, then I will encounter something different from me, as far as these don't affect me unwell, I can adopt.
For me girlfriends have been playing as something different from me. If I cannot assimilate them, I have to kick them out.
I lost all my manuscripts from at age 14 to 16, and indeed because this period fell on the days of crisis in my self, I lost them probably I didn't look back the days of self crisis any more. They were not deliberately thrown away, though, which is as good as I threw away. Because I just left them deep inside the storespace, so no one noticed these were the manuscripts.
To keep healthy mind and body, that's the most important agenda imposed throughout our lives.

Breakaway Republic Of Myself

My desire tells me I need to love her. My economic need tells me that I need to work in using my brain. My brain orders me not to use my brain in job. Everything is broken away. It's just hard to keep myself in oneness.

Mockery Of Democracy

I attended some meeting as just a guest, participant, outsider, observer, or onlooker. One master of ceremonies asked in front of us whether they should move their property to individual's property, this time to the head of the group. He said, please raise your hand if you think it's alright. It was 5 or 6 out of 25 attendants who agreeed to this arrangement. I completely thought that the proposal was rejected. However, he said again, please raise your hand if you disagree with this proposal. This time no people raise their hands. He said, consequently we decided to move the group's property to the ownership of the head of the group.

Needless to say, secret ballot ought to be used to decide such an important issue that relates to money.

Norovirus Outbreak

The day before yesterday the TV news was reporting that there were total 320,000 patients of norovirus. I turned on TV again and the news had reported that there were three outbreaks nationwide. Norovirus outbreak became one of the worst notorious outbreaks.

Hair Nude

Hair Nude
2006.12.17 4:01

Ten years ago to show pubic hair in photo was thought to be obscenity and those who published these photos were arrested without exception in Japan. But now it is generally accepted to show this hair in photo and we can see many nude photos that show this. When 'hair nude' was allowed, the authority explained the concept of obscenity changes as time goes by. As I assumed in my previous JE, if hair is to protect from something the pubic hair is to protect organ itself from being seen publicly. Can you imagine how the society of Japan was under cultivated? And there are still many strange obstacles before modernisation.

Natural Selection II

Natural Selection II
2006.12.16 3:44

Once I thought about why hair remains in three parts of our body. Head hair, hair under armpit, and puberty. In the first place, hair exists to protect something. Head hair is to protect from strong sunshine in a subtropical area, from extreme cold in cold area. Hair under armpit is to protect sweat in the area. Puberty hair is to protect from opposit sex's curious eyes.

Natural Selection III

Natural Selection III
2006.12.16 3:56

Some octopus has two eyes in their head plus two eyes in their feet. Two eyes in their feet are faked ones. For them eyes are most important organs. Once those were attacked, they are never like to survive. All those who hadn't have two circles in their feet were died out. Only those who happened to have two circles in their feet survived.
This is the fact of natural selection.

Long Hair

Long Hair

I started having my hair no cut. My hair has been rather lengthening, that hides the upper one-thirds of ears now. Looks very sweet. I can make a pony tail soon. Japanese samurai used to do it. They shaved the centre part of the head from the necessity of wearing a helmet all the time. That could keep their head dry. Thus long hair has been a sign of independence from authority.

In a hundred years from 1821 to 1920, 33.6 million Europeans immigrated to America. Now the birth rate of new born baby is decreasing. This island will be occupied by a very old people who conform.
They are not all Matsuzakas or other talented baseball stars. But I think the continuous flow of immigration will gradually gain recognition among those who consider themselves as somewhat gifted.

They- Japanese already fully noticed the level of this country is no match for international standard. So they always feel the limit of individual's power. But they are aware that the integrated power often exceeds the power of each individuals. Then they are apt to get together. The ultimate form of the integrated power is called politically totalitarianism. In the case of a relatively small country like Japan this change occurs in just a few years.

Recurrence To Conservatism

Recurrence To Conservatism

The last election for the member of the House of Representative (Lower House) was fought in a sigle issue -whether we privatise the Post, overwhelming majority voted for the privatisation including me. Japanese people were fanatic without thinking about the consequencies seriously. Then gigantic ruling party appeared. Now former premier was gone. At the beginning of new prime minister, many laws were through the Diet. Corporation tax is cut, income tax is up. Consumption tax will be raised drastically in a few years. Walfare is cut. Defence Agency becomes the Ministry of Defence, the fundamental law of education is changed, which become more conservative than before.
Furthermore the constitution will be changed. The article No.9-2 that declares the abandonment of war will be changed particularly. Japan will be able to hold military. Japan's self defence force will be Japanese Army again.

The developer of Winny software, age 36, was guilty, his fine was 15,000 dollars.
Wrong judgement. The judge of Kyoto distric court was unable to comprehend the meaning of the case. I am not surprised. I think the technic itself ought to be evaluated, how it was used is completely another matter. Law ought to distingish these two matters, but the judge judged from how it was used. It was used unlawfully, therefore the software must be illegal according to this judge.
We are surrounded by many convenient tools but these tools never be responsible for the crimes they invited.

Tight, Tighter
2006.12.12 3:13

Government decided to deduce tax for companies. The total is 10,000,000,000 -ten billion dollars.
The explanation of government is companies have contributed forty to fifty billion dollars extra tax revenue for these several years, therefore it stands to reason they are worthwhile to receive huge tax cuts.
In the first place several years ago when lots of banks were dying holding gigantic non performing bond, millions of public fund, mostly tax from nationals were thrown in. Why the don't say nationals are worthy of receiving huge tax cuts because they made gigantic sacrifice to save lots of banks.
I don't hope these steps are going to be a prelude to the apocalypse from the bottom of Japan's social strata. From the bottom, as such.

The Last Samurai

The Last Samurai
[ Edit Delete #155396 ] 2006.12.12 1:39

Last night I watched the movie The Last Samurai, for the first time. This movie is a fiction, but there's a model for this figure.
He was so fixed in old good days of samurai warrior period. He was chosen to be an Emperor's personal advisor though he refused to give away the sword -the symbol of samurai spirit.
Finally 500 hundred members of his troops were completely devastated by guns.
He was unable to adjust the new circumstances, though he knew that the system he clung to was to fade away. Yet he was unable to surrender to the new system.
I think he represents the spirit of Japanese people right now. They know their system is completely obsolete, but they can't change their way of living, thinking. It is not their fault, though, they ought to yield. It happens regardless of whether they are wrong or not.

Six Party Talks

Six Party Talks
2006.12.11 4:09

It's completely unnecessary. Three party -North Korea, China, America -is enough. Japan ought to retreat from the talks.
The reason? Japan does not represent millitarily in the region. Why Japan has to concern with the millitary situation around the area. I myself want to ask.

Lack Of Information

Lack Of Information

Department of Justice might have been severely suffered from the lack of information. They decided the deportation of Japanese who were born in Japan sixteen years ago. Their parents happen to be from abroad, I mean they were 'illegal aliens'.
In the first place, we all are decendants of immigrants, regardless of whether they are legel or illegal.
I hope the authority will make a realistic decision.

Folk Etymology

Folk Etymology
2006.12.11 3:30

As a writer, I am very aware of the origin of words. Japanese ancient word 'Inishie' is so similar to Latin word 'Initiare'. Both means ' To begin with'
Japanese term for expressing thanks is 'Arigatoh' which is very similar to Latin word ' Obligato'. In English there's an expression 'Much obliged'.
The name in English is 'Namae' in Japanese.
Those are called folk etymology, but they reflect some truth. If these words are common, many people don't have to feel trouble. These words might be common from ancient times.

It was then one of my friends visited me. I was about to lose what I was thinking about. So I said to him, 'I am thinking about something, I am always thinking about something. ' He asked what I was thinking. I said, 'It is hard to...' He interrupted my speaking, saying...'to express'
I smiled at him and said. 'Expression is easy. Because I can come up just too things in my mind, it is hard to 'catch', so soon after I come it up I always take down my ideas.' He passed through, I forgot what I was thinking, but he left me this journal.

Dispatched Labour

Dispatched labour had been prohibited from the perspective of labourer protection. Dispatched labourer had no health insurrance, bonus, promotion, etc.,yet dispatched labourere has been increasing rapidly recently. The law might have been changed, or just there might have a loophole for it.

The reason of this shift is clear. There's few labourers to protect in company, so the gap between dispatched workers and regular ones has been narrower. Whomever hired, that doesn't make differences any more.

Why Memories Of The Dead Is Good?

I often notice people often recall a dead person as a good figure like he was a good guy, etc. Why?

Because they don't do harm any more. The living people tend to recall only good memories that they had with him when he was alive. They certainly have a nostalgia that they can't see him any more.

Theophilline

The medicine theophilline is used to asthma patients, but it were prescribed in infants, that is subject to causing spasm. If it lasted long hours like 2.5 hours, it is subject to causing acute encephalitis.

Solzhenitsyn's Wife

Solzhenitsyn was famous for his literary work 'Gulag Archipelagoes ' ' In First Circle' , and once he was put in Gulag for a long time. From there he wrote a letter to his wife in which he told her not to wait him. She said she wanted to hear that he wanted her to wait but instead he sent her a farewell letter. She thought he had already lost his love to her, so she separated from him.

If he thought he can't give her a happiness because he was isolated in Gulag, which means he doesn't love her any more. If it's replaceable, we didn't call it 'love'.

I was unable to forgive just one lie she mad before we got married. I was revealed several days before marriage, since then I had been unable to have relationship with her. After we got married we just had relationship a couple of times but any more. Our marriage ended after one year and three months. Total period of our human relationship was only two years and three months. I kept on refusing to have relationship with her even if I was asked many times -more than ten times. Finally she gave up. We kept on living in the same house after her reveletion, but our relationship never restored.
I was unable to forgive just one lie she made. I didn't tell any lies to her. All the more I was unable to forgive her lie. At least at that time. Finally we divorced. What was her lie? She told me her age was 24, but actually she was about to be 30. We got married three days before she became thirty.
Telling a lie is bad thing. But not telling a lie is even worse.

Kidney has been bought by living body in some South Asia countries. Usually Japanese recepients pay 5000 to 6000 dollars to agents, in which 2000, sometimes 1000 dollars are paid to its donners.
In some countries, kidney transplantation costs 50000 to 70000 dollars including margin to agents.
Kidney tranplantation from other people is not permitted publicly in Japan.

Gap Tariff System

Gap Tariff System
2006.12.07 3:54

This is one of the effective protectionist's measures.
Usually domestic products are more expensive than foreign goods, so our government impose the higher tariff on import goods so as to protect the benefit of domestic industry. For example, Scotch, Bourbon are much cheaper than domestic conterpart. To make matters better, the taste is also better. So Japanese people are willing to buy Scotch, Bourbon. Therefore gap tariffs exist. Owing to the gap tariff system, people buy any whiskies indiscriminately. The price of both whiskies are almost the same.
It is easily recognisable if they were the cases of liquor, chocolate, etc., but in the case of pork, it is just hard to distinguish between domestic pork and imported one. So if the importer says this pork is domestic one pointing to imported pork, everyone can't help trusting that the one is domestic. Thus they didn't have to pay 'gap tax' that was supposed to pay. They saved 150 million dollars. But they didn't keep it in their safe, they reflected it on the price of pork and the pork they sell has been kept at low price.
Who was most benefitted? Consumers were. The head of company was arrested, but the Department of Agriculture started considering the change of the law.

Japanese people work very hard, usually 12 hours in a day, 60 hours in a week. But Americans are able to do the same amount of job for 8 hours in a day, 40 hours in a week. In ordinary time we can hardly see the difference since Japanese work extra 4 hours in a day, and 20 hours in a week, but once in time of emergency, Americans work 12 hours in a day. Obviously Japanese cannot afford to work for 16 hours in a day. In ordinary time Japanese are already working at full swing. They can nothing for it but to explode in time of emergency.
The fate of Japanese is clear. They need to be enslaved before soon.

There's a container. This case can contain 300 grams of something. But only it contains 100 grams.
There's one box. I could only find the portion of one-thirds of the size of the box. The box is too big to its extreme.
Around me there's too many things like these. As if I were living on the moon. Oh, semi-moon.

We need a partner to be a philosopher. It must be a friend who spends all day and night with me. I used to have a couple of friends who were able to do so. Now I've wanted.
Girls only.

Being Famous

If those who are well-known to the people they usually belong to, they are famous. Those who appear in television, newspaper have nothing to do with being famous. They are not famous as long as they are outside the realms of my world.

One Time Visitor

Two days ago past midnight I watched the movie 'Ichigensan' from 2 am to 4 am. This movie was a very impressive movie. A love between a foreign student from Switzeland and a woman who graduated from the same university one year ago. After they made love a couple of times, he went back to Paris to be a journalist after he graduated from *** University. His major was Japanese literature.

After one year of leave after she graduated from the same university, she chose to engage in a job in Tokyo. Thus they had to separate one another.

'Ichigensan' means those who visit pub or restaurant only one time and no more. Here's the link if you are interested.
